MALAYSIANS IN UAE CELEBRATE AIDILFITRI WITH PRAYERS, OPEN HOUSE By Muin Abdul Majid

DUBAI, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Muslim Malaysians across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) performed Aidilfitri prayers Tuesday, joining other Muslims in this Gulf nation and many other countries in the Middle East in celebrating Aidilfitri which marks the end of the Ramadan fasting month.

In Dubai, the Malaysians converged on the Matrade centre for the prayers
led by Shushilil Azam Shuib, the Malaysian Education Promotion Centre (MEPC)
regional director.
They traded Aidilfitri greetings with one another, with many of the men and
boys opting for colourful baju Melayu suits and songkok for the special
occasion.

Not to be outdone, the Malaysian ladies looked resplendent in their baju
kurung and kebaya outfits and headscarves.

Among those present were several heads of Malaysian government agencies
based in the UAE.

And the Aidilfitri joy continued as many Malaysians welcomed friends and
colleagues to their homes scattered all over Dubai to enjoy Malaysian
delicacies, keeping Malaysia's famed open house tradition alive in this desert
emirate.

Shusilil Azam's open house right after Aidilfitri prayers was the centre of
attention for many Malaysians here, grateful for the Malaysian cuisine thousands
of kilometres away from home.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE vice-president, prime
minister and ruler of Dubai performed Aidilfitri prayers at the Grand Eid
Mussallah in Bur Dubai.

The UAE Moon Sighting Committee announced Monday night that the UAE was to
celebrate Aidilfitri Tuesday.
