RI MUSLIMS IN CANBERRA BUILDING POSITIVE IMAGE THROUGH MAGAZINE
Brisbane, Sept 30 (ANTARA) - A group of Muslim Indonesians in Australia are regularly publishing a magazine named "Assalama" in support of efforts to build a positive image of Indonesian Muslims in Australia.
Australia-Indonesia Muslim Foundation Inc Australia Capital Territory (AIMF Inc ACT) President Dr Teddy Mantoro said here Tuesday, so far a total of 200 copies of the English-language magazine had been printed and distributed.
The magazine contains numerous articles and reports by Indonesian Muslims and is distributed to various religious communities, government institutions, parlemantary groups, educational institutions and foreign embassies.
"The magazine aims to build a positive image of Indonesian Muslims in Canberra. The magazine also gives information about Islam to Australians, especially those in Canberra," Mantoro said.
"The magazine has the full support of Indonesian Ambassador to Australia and Vanuatu TM Hamzah Thayeb and the education and cultural attache at the Indonesian Emabassy in Canberra," he added.
The motivation for publishing Assalam was the fact that Islam and Indonesia were not being fully understood in Australia. So far, the magazine had reached its fourth published volume.
In a spirit of collective endeavor, Indonesian Muslims in Canberra and AIMF are trying to build a positive through the magazine, Muntoro said.
