PT KAI TO OPERATE NEW EXECUTIVE TRAIN SERVICE
Jakarta, Sept 30 (ANTARA) - State railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is to operate another executive train service dubbed 'Sembrani' on the Gambir (Jakarta) - Pasar Turi (Surabaya) route after Idul Fitri, a spokesman said.
"We launched the first Sembrani train on the occassion of the Lebaran holidays and we plan to operate another one after Lebaran," Ahmad Sujudi, public relations officer of PT KAI's Operation Area I, told Antara here Tuesday.
He said it was an effort to improve the quality of PT KAI's services to the public.
"This is our chance to compete with the airlines, especially after the oil price hikes," he added.
The number of executive class train passengers had increased airline companies raised their ticket prices. "Since Adam Air stopped its operations, more passengers use executive trains instead. The rise has been happening since January 2008," Sujadi said.
The Sembrani train service has closed cabins like in an aircraft as its special feature. The cabins are designed to prevent theft of pasenggers' possesions.
"Another thing is that the seats are like those in aircraft," he said.
