ACTING DISTRICT CHIEFS, MAYORS NOT ALLOWED TO RUN IN ELECTIONS

Jakarta, Sept 30 (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto warned all acting district heads and mayors as well as candidate acting regional administraton chiefs they were not allowed to run in local elections to become the definitive office holders.

"There was an acting regional government chief who served for only six months and then resigned to run in an election to become the definitive regional administration chief," the minister said in Manado, North Sulawesi's provincial capital, Tuesday.

He was speaking at the inauguration of newly-formed East Bolaang Mongondow and South Bolaang Mongondow districts which previously were part of Bolaang Mongondow district.

The minister also installed Kandoli Mokodongan as East Bolaang Mongondow acting district chief and Arudji Mongilong as South Bolaang Mongondow acting district chief. He was accompanied by Saut Situmorang, head of the Home Affairs Ministry's information department and Sinyo Sarundajang, North Sulawesi governor.

The acting officials were asked to form the regional administration organization and draw up the districts' work plans. They would serve for a maximum of one year.

In his speech, the minister also advised the newly installed the acting district chiefs to select the people who would fill the many positions in their administrations carefully.
