MINISTER : US BANKRUPTCIES CREATING RISKS FOR RI`S 2009 STATE BUDGET

Jakarta, Sept 30 (ANTARA) - The bankruptcy of several US financial institutions has worsened the economic situation in that country and the world, causing Indonesia's 2009 State Budget to be exposed to certain risks, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said.

Therefore, she would soon meet with the House of Representatives (DPR) to discuss the need to make adjustments in the 2009 State Budget to anticipate those risks, the minister told the press at the State Palace here Tuesday.

"The risks will get bigger in 2009. We will discuss this matter with House members," she said.

Mulyani said she and House members needed to discuss the latest trends in the global economy and the creation of a special budget for the government to anticipate any possible development.

She would also communicate about the matter with Bank Indonesia (central bank) Governor Boediono to ensure that the bank would adopt the right monetary policies.

The US parliament's refusal to endorse its government's bailout plan to save a number of financial institutions on September 29, had added more uncertainty to the economic situation in the US as well as the world, she said.

"The uncertainty could have a great impact on the world economy, and we must anticipate this possibility. We will continue to monitor the situation," she said.
