MINISTER INAUGURATES TWO NEWLY-FORMED DISTRICTS IN N SULAWESI
Manado, Indonesia, Sept 30 (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto here on Tuesday inaugurated two newly formed districts, Bolmong Timur (Boltim) and Bolmong Selatan (Bolsel), in North Sulawesi.
Accompanied by North Sulawesi Governor SH Sarundajang, local community figures and government officials, the home affairs minister also installed Kandoli Mokodongan as acting district chief of Boltim and Arudji Mongilong as acting district chief of Bolsel.
On the occasion, the minister urged the peoples in the two autonomous districts, approved by the House of Representatives (DPR) in June 2008, to assist the government in launching various development programs aimed at improving the local people's welfare.
Mardiyanto said the presence of the two new districts in North Sulawesi was to facilitate public services and to encourage equitable development, and therefore he expressed hope the acting district heads would work for one year and focus on their given tasks.
The minister said the acting district heads were expected to be responsible for running the administration, preparing the administrative outline, forming the legislature and facilitating the local leadership election in coordination with the North Sulawesi governor, the parent district administration, and the central government.
"It is expected that the new acting district heads will not set up unwieldy administrative structures which in the long run will have a negative impact on the districts' finances," the minister said.
