PALU POLICE DETONATE SUSPECTED BOMB

Palu, Indonesia, Sept 30 (ANTARA) - A Central Sulawesi police bomb squad on Tuesday morning detonated an object suspected to be a bomb which was discovered at the Palu Plaza shopping mall on Danau Poso street in the town of Palu.

The object was detonated at 3:15 on Tuesday morning or about two hours after local people had discovered it.

Palu Police chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Bonar Sitinjak said the suspected bomb was discovered by local people at the shopping mall at 1 a.m. local time on Tuesday.

Sitinjak said the object might have been planted by an irresponsible person at the shopping mall to terrorize people who would celebrate Idul Fitri to mark the end of the Ramadan fasting month.

"We have yet to identify the perpetrator but we will continue to find out," Sitinjak said, adding that the object was suspected to be a bomb because it had a cable, battery, lamp, and a trigger on it.

However the situation at Palu Plaza shopping mall where the suspected bomb was discovered had returned to normal and people began to throng into the mall as if nothing had happened.
