Turkey calls on North Korea for dialogue with international community
ANKARA (A.A) - December 22, 2011 - Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has made a call on North Korea for dialogue and cooperation with the international community following a change in leadership in that country.
In a written statement released Thursday, the MFA said that the preservation of security and stability was highly important in the transition period following the demise of Kim Jong-il.
As a country that has lost around 800 troops in the Korean War, it is the wish of Turkey to see that the change in leadership in North Korea would facilitate positive developments for the people of Korea, the region and the world, the MFA stressed.
Turkey supports the resumption of six party talks so that the Korean peninsula is cleared off all nuclear weapons. We expect North Korea to have a dialogue and cooperation with the international community to facilitate permanent peace and stability in the region, the MFA also said.
