Hyundai, Kia to roll out new vehicles at Paris Motor Show

SEOUL, Sept. 30 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co. and its affiliate Kia Motors Corp.
will introduce new models this week at the Paris Motor Show in hopes of capturing
a bigger slice of the European market, company officials said Tuesday.
Hyundai, South Korea's largest automaker, will debut its i20 small car as it
looks to boost sales of fuel-efficient vehicles amid rising oil prices and
economic uncertainties related to the U.S. subprime mortgage crisis.
Hyundai will also introduce a third-generation fuel-cell version of the i20 and a
hybrid version of the Santa Fe sport-utility vehicle at the Paris show for the
first time.
Among Hyundai's other new offerings to be shown are the Genesis luxury sedan and
the i10 mini car.
Hyundai sold about 320,000 vehicles in Europe last year. This year's sales target
for the continent was not immediately available.
Kia will show off its Soul crossover compact car at the show, which opens on Oct.
2.
The Soul hit showrooms in South Korea last week, and is Kia's first crossover
model to challenge Toyota Motor Corp.'s Scion xB in Europe and the U.S.
Hyundai and Kia control more than 70 percent of the South Korean automobile market.
