MOTHER GRATEFUL MELATI DUA TANKER FINALLY RELEASED
IPOH (Malaysia), Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Nothing would bring more joy to
Rashidah Yahaya than to know that her son, Nor Azuawan Ramli, 25, would finally
be home for Aidilfitri.
"Alhamdulillah, finally my prayer is answered. My beloved son whom I call
'Me Me' and is a cook in the MT Bunga Melati Dua tanker is safe and will return
home in two weeks' time," the 52-year-old mother said.
Nor Azuawan was one of the crewmen of Malaysian International Shipping
Corporation (MISC) tanker held hostages by pirates in the Gulf of Aden since Aug
19.
The tanker was freed at 4.14am Monday, just a day after MT Bunga Melati
Lima
was released.
Both vessels, it is learnt, are being escorted by Malaysian warships,
the
KD Lekiu and KD Sri Inderapura 2 to Djibouti, East Africa.
Rashidah said she received a telephone call from a MISC officer informing
her of the release at about 8am.
She said Nor Azuawan's return would bring double joy to the family as her
youngest daughter, Norsaidatul Liana, was getting married on the second day of
Hari Raya.
Rashidah said she would also hold a thanksgiving ceremony to celebrate Nor
Azuawan's homecoming.
The MT Bunga Melati Dua, with 39 crewmen of whom 29 were Malaysians and 10
Filipinos, was hijacked in the gulf on Aug 19.
Ten days later, the MT Bunga Melati Lima, with 36 Malaysian and five
Filipino crew, heading to Singapore from Yanbu, Saudi Arabia had encountered the
same fate.
