Arbiters` bill attracts international expertise
Hanoi (VNA)- The Vietnam Barristers' Association (VBA) has
invited international experts to give recommendations and share experiences
to an arbiters' bill currently being drafted, in an effort to improve
arbiters' positions in resolving trade disputes in Vietnam .
To this end, an international workshop was held in Hanoi on September
29 in association with the United Nations Development Fund under the chair
of VBA President Pham Quoc Anh.
Its Permanent Deputy President and Secretary General Dao Tri Uc said that
the concept of trade arbiters remain quite new in the eyes of businesspeople
in Vietnam with the most important legal document to this regard currently
limited to the Ordinance on Trade Arbiters.
The priority at the moment is to clarify the current position of the legal
system regarding arbiters and make precise evaluations as to how the
relevant legal documents have been applied to existing conditions to create
a solid foundation for the application of an arbiters bill in Vietnam
, Uc said.
The Head of the central province of Khanh Hoa laywers delegation,
Nguyen Dinh Tho, highlighted the urgency to meet demand for solving economic
disputes through arbiters.
He said that the replacement of the existing ordinance by an Arbiters Law
would contribute to upgrading the Vietnamese legal system to meet
international standards and comparing it with those in other countries
around, particularly that of Hong Kong and Singapore as its
models.
