Overall flooding situation in Phattalung improves

BANGKOK, December 14 (TNA) - People began Wednesday to clean up their houses, after floodwater in Tamod District of Thailand’s southern Phattalung Province have been subsiding. Thorakorn Trabanpruek, chief of Phattalung's disaster prevention and mitigation office, said that the flooding situation in Mae Khri locality of Tamod, one of four districts hit by flash floods yesterday, has almost returned to normal. Nonetheless, Thorakorn acknowledged that floodwater in Koa Chai Son District has remained high at about one metre, forcing some 250 people in a village to live on the second floor of their houses and to use a makeshift raft for transportation. According to the chief provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office, it should take some time for floodwater in Koa Chai Son to dry out, as the district is a low-lying area and located near the Asian Highway, which blocks the floodwater from fast going out.
