QNA to Participate in the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of OANA

Doha, December 13 (QNA) - The Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) is to celebrate the 50th anniversary in the Thai Capital of Bangkok on Wednesday. The participants will discuss over two days the proposal submitted by Kemal Ozturk, the Director of Anadolu Agency, which currently holds presidency of OANA, on the draft declaration of the 50th anniversary of founding OANA. The proposal includes the guidelines adopted by the Anadolu news agency recently to report the news of war, terrorism, conflicts and natural disasters. The participants will also discuss the ethics and the media, assess OANA past performance and adopt the Declaration of the 50th anniversary of founding OANA. The delegation of Qatar News Agency (QNA) to the celebration will include Deputy Director of the Joint Services Department Ahmad Said al-Kuwari and Head of the Arabic Editing Department Ahmad Hassan Fakhro. OANA was formed in 1961, upon a UNESCO initiative. The OANA aims to expand and facilitate the exchange of information between Asian and Pacific countries, and to participate in eliminating the imbalance in the information exchange between developed and developing countries. Today, the OANA brings together 40 news agencies from 33 countries. Its members include the Russian Itar-Tass, Turkish Anadolu, Japanese Kyodo News, Chinese Xinhua, Iranian IRNA, Saudi Arabian SPA, South Korean Yonhap, Pakistani PPI and APP, Kazakh Kazinform, Indonesian ANTARA and others.
