S. Korea's largest solar panel plant starts commercial operation

SEOUL, Sept. 29 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Everland Inc., the de facto holding company of Samsung Group, said Monday it has started commercial operation of its solar panel plant in what the company says is the nation's largest such facility.

The plant, located 234 kilometers southwest of Seoul in the city of Gimcheon, has
an annual capacity of 26,000 megawatts -- enough to supply power to about 8,000
homes in the city, according to the company.
Samsung Everland, the group's amusement park operator, spent 140 billion won
(USR$117.2 million) to build the facility.
The company said it has been engaged in alternative energy projects since 1988.
Samsung Group is the nation's largest family-run business conglomerate with
Samsung Electronics Co. -- Asia's largest maker of computer memory chips, mobile
phones and liquid crystal display -- under its wing.
