S. Korean energy exhibition highlights eco-friendly industrial trends

SEOUL, Sept. 29 (Yonhap) -- An annual energy exhibition that kicks off this week in Seoul will highlight eco-friendly industrial trends designed to boost sustainable growth, government organizers for the event said Monday.

The Ministry of Knowledge Economy said the four-day-long exhibition, which will
run through Thursday at the Convention and Exhibition Center (COEX) in southern
Seoul, features various "green" energy products, systems and facilities made by
171 companies from 13 countries.
Products from South Korea, the United States, Japan, Germany, Sweden and Austria
are to be on display.
The Korea Energy Show 2008 will also allow companies to talk directly with
prospective buyers. The ministry expects at least US$7 million worth of
commercial deals to be signed.
Fuel-efficient systems, devices to make cleaner fossil fuel and products that can
ensure sustainable growth without endangering the environment will also be on
display, the ministry said. These include high-tech solar cell systems, energy
efficient homes and heat pump systems.
"Of all the booths that are to be opened, half will be related to new renewable
energy products that can appeal to manufacturers," said a government official.
In addition, the ministry said the show will be "carbon neutral," meaning
manufacturers and organizers will determine how much carbon dioxide will be
released through the production of goods and the hosting of the event, and take
steps to offset those emissions.
Offset measures can include planting trees or buying so-called carbon credits
from organizations that work to reduce greenhouse gas output.
