Uzbek president: Constitution is guarantor of free and prosperous life

Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Dec. 8 / Trend D. Azizov / "The foundation and guarantee of a free and prosperous life of people, the achievements reached for the years of independence, is the Constitution of Uzbekistan - the Main Law of the country," Uzbek President Islam Karimov said at the solemn meeting, dedicated to the holiday date, held in Tashkent. We are celebrating the 19th anniversary of its adoption these days." The state and public figures, representatives of science, art and culture, the country's public, embassies of foreign countries and representative offices of international organizations accredited in Uzbekistan attended the solemn meeting. "The adoption of the Constitution meant that we have chosen own path of development with an emphasis on democratic values, the harmonious development of the society, market economy and open international policy," President Karimov said. The Main Law is the guarantor of achieving such ambitious goals, as building a democratic state, ensuring the priority of human rights and freedom, peace and harmony in the country. President Karimov stressed that the ongoing reforms in the country - the real implementation of the principles and regulations fixed in the constitution. The way chosen by the Uzbek people, the progress made in the process of the Uzbek model of development, recognized by the international community, the reforms that are the foundation of all changes are fully consistent with the Constitution. The President recalled that, despite the ongoing global financial crisis, Uzbekistan ensures an annual economic growth averaged 8.5 percent for the last five years. This is confirmed by leading international financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund. An important foundation of our future development was the concept of the further intensifying of democratic reforms and the formation of civil society in the country developed in 2010. The Uzbek Constitution was adopted unanimously on December 8, 1992 at the 11th session of the Supreme Council of the Republic. President Karimov signed the laws on "Adoption the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan", "Order of entering the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan into force", "Declaring the day of adopting the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan as a national holiday."
