Samsung tops global PC monitor sales in Q2
SEOUL, Sept. 29 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co. was the top seller of computer monitors worldwide in the second quarter, a market report showed Monday.
The South Korean company accounted for 16.5 percent of all monitors sold in the
April-June period, according to the market research agency IDC in its latest
report. It did not disclose actual sales figures.
Samsung, also the world's largest seller of computer memory chips, has maintained
the top position for eight-consecutive quarters.
Dell Inc. came second with a 15-percent share, followed by Hewlett-Packard (HP)
Co. and Acer Inc. with market shares of 10.5 percent and 10.2 percent,
respectively. LG Electronics Inc. ranked fifth with a 9.8-percent share.
Market watchers have said Samsung's feat is particularly remarkable as, unlike
Dell or HP, the company does not sell desktop PCs bundled with monitors in
overseas markets.
In the LCD monitor market alone, Samsung maintained its lead for the
fourth-straight quarter, accounting for a 16-percent share, followed by Dell and
HP, with 15.7 percent and 10.8 percent, respectively.
"The results, despite an overall downturn in consumer spending around the world,
are from consumers' recognition of Samsung's overall product and service
quality," said a company official.
