INDONESIANS PACK STULANG LAUT JETTY TO RETURN FOR AIDILFITRI
JOHOR BAHARU (Malaysia), Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Indonesians have been packing the Stulang Laut ferry terminal here since Friday to return home for Aidilfitri.
A Bernama survey found that some began arriving at the ferry terminal
from as early as 3am to board the ferry to Batam or Tanjung Pinang.
"They arrived early to buy the tickets. The crowd swelled by 7am but the
situation is under control," said security guard Mohamed Amri who was on duty
at The Zon duty free shopping area here Sunday.
Nelly Aziz, 35, said she was looking forward to return home as it would be
the first for her in five years.
She married a Malaysian and has two children.
"Aidilfitri is an expensive affair. Return fares for the ferry and airline
seats to Sumatera for the four of us will cost some 10 million rupiah or
RM3,500," she added.
Mohamad Selamat, 30, said he was also eager to return home to Batam despite
having been away for only three weeks.
"Aidilfitri is an auspicious occasion and best celebrated with family
members," he said.
Umi Ana, 29, who came here four days ago to shop said the atmosphere was
great and that they were lots of things to buy.
The ferry from Stulang Laut will take about one hour to reach Batam and 90
minutes to reach Tanjung Pinang.
The other exit points to Batam are Tanjung Balungkor near Kota Tinggi,
Minyak Beku near Batu Pahat and Kukup near Pontian.
