Uzbek Senate adopts resolution on amnesty

Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Dec. 5 / Trend D. Azizov / The Uzbek Senate adopted a resolution on amnesty in connection with the 19th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic at the plenary session, held in Tashkent on Monday. "The adoption of the amnesty act demonstrates humanism," chairperson of the Committee on Legislation and Judicial-Legal Affairs Svetlana Artikova said. "This testifies to the consistent implementation of reforms in the judicial sphere." The adopted resolution states that women, juveniles, males older 60 and foreign citizens will be amnestied. Moreover, disabled and people suffering from serious diseases, as well as those who committed crimes of negligence and sentenced for the first time will be amnestied. People sentenced for the participation in terrorist organizations for the first time will be amnestied. The amnesty will not apply to those sentenced to life in prison, convicted of murder and committed especially dangerous crimes. The resolution will come into force from the date of publication in the mass media. It will be executed within three months.
