Thai government reviews plan to expand Suvarnabhumi Airport

BANGKOK, December 3 (TNA) - The Thai government is reconsidering its plan to expand the country's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport in the wake of widespread floods. The Thai Ministry of Transport has reportedly asked Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) to review its plan to invest some 62 billion baht on expanding the Suvarnabhumi International Airport, acknowledging this year's flooding crisis since late July has disrupted AOT's normal operations; so, it should only invest in new projects considered necessary. AOT will reportedly make the decision on the issue by the end of this year, as the Suvarnabhumi International Airport is now catering international passengers at its full capacity, at some 45 million annually.
