No Sales of Benzene 91 In Thailand As Of Oct 2012
BANGKOK, December 1 (TNA) - Thailand's National Energy Policy Committee (NEPC), under the Ministry of Energy, has resolved to scrap sales of regular gasoline, or benzene 91, in the country as of October 1, 2012.
The NEPC's decision is expected to boost sales of alternative fuel products with crop-based ethanol being major components, namely gasohol in several categories, which will not only raise local farmers’ income, but also help conserve the environment.
The policy is also expected to boost domestic consumption of ethanol to nearly two million litres daily, from about 1.08 million litres now.
Meanwhile, the NEPC has also agreed to inject a 10-billion-baht fund to assist local flood-affected energy businesses to enable them to switch to using energy conservation machines, replacing those damaged by floods, with details of the financial support to be further worked out and finalized. (TNA)
