PICKUP TRUCK CRASH KILLS FOUR, INJURES FIVE IN JEMBER
Jember, East Java, Sept. 28 (ANTARA) - Four people were killed and five others hurt when a pickup truck crashed at a plantation area at Kemiri Village, Panti sub district, Jember District, East Java province, on Saturday afternoon.
The pickup truck carrying nine people and 25 sacks of coffee bean, overturned when descending on a steep and rocky road.
The four fatalities were respectively identified as Tijeh (40 years old), Sunarmi (55), Diman alias Santo (60), and Sarmanih alias Muhanyar (50). They were inhabitants of Nogosari village, Sukorambi sub district, Jember.
Of the five injured passengers, three were seriously wounded.
Police Brigadier Budi of the Jember police office said that Munir, the pickup car's driver, seemed to lose control when descending on the rocky and steep road at the plantation area.
"Four people were killed in the accident site, while five others were seriously or slightly injured and all of them were rushed to a nearby hospital," he said.
The dead and injured victims were sent to Dr Soebandi Public Hospital in Jember.
Last Friday (Sept. 26), a collision between a bus and a pickup truck killed eight people and injured five others on the northern Java coastal highway (Pantura) at Sukamandi, West Java.
