Yemen arrests suspects blast oil pipeline

SANA'A, Sep. 27 (Saba)- Security sources said on Saturday that
several people have been arrested after an oil pipeline was blown up
in Khawlan district of Sana'a province.

The sources confirmed that the arrested accused of being behind the
operation were being investigated.

Security crackdowns were taken to hunt down the perpetrators. The
sources pointed to the large quantities of oil had flooded through
two holes done by the explosions.

The pipeline carries oil from the Safer oilfields in Marib province
to an export terminal at As-Salif on the Red Sea. The explosion
started a fire in the pipeline.

An oil ministry official said firemen put out the blaze and the
pipeline was back on stream hours later. The attack on the pipeline
appeared to be the work of disgruntled tribesmen.

Yemen produces around 380,000 barrels of oil a day, more than half
of which is exported.
