NZ Embassy Officials, People Help Clean Bangkok
BANGKOK, November 27 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) on Sunday led New Zealand embassy senior officials and people from all walks of life in cleaning the outskirts of Bangkok after flood has started receding in the area.
BMA deputy governor Taya Teepsuwan presided over the cleaning programme and released a caravan to rehabilitate Taling Chan district on the Thon Buri side in front of the Southern Bus Terminal.
New Zealand ambassador to Thailand Bede Corry and Karen Campbell, commercial attaché of the New Zealand embassy, participated in the cleaning programme along with the general public.
The caravan comprising of five trucks carrying EM Balls which helps purified polluted water also helped sprayed fog to kill mosquitoes in seven breeding areas and 20 water trucks that cleaned both sides of Barom Rajchonnee Road.
Meanwhile, officials are preparing to pump out floodwater which has inundated White House Housing Estate in Bangkok’s neighbouring province of Pathum Thani. More than 1,400 households in the housing estate have been under deep flood of about 1.5 metres for nearly two months now.
Pathum Thani Province Administration Organisation Sunday mapped out plans to pump out flood from 11 communities there by using more than 10 water pumps, repair dyke and build more piles to protect water from entering the village. It is expected that situation in the area would return to normal within one week.
Public Health Minister Wittaya Buranasiri told journalists that 64 provinces nationwide were impacted from flood. To date, the situation has improved as only 22 problems are still encountering the problem.
He said Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has ordered concerned government agencies to accelerate on assisting flood victims by providing medical, food and drinking water services between today and December 3. Affected people should have normal life within 45 days. (TNA)
