One killed, 18 injured in Delhi blast
New Delhi, Sep 27 (PTI) A 13-year-old boy was killed and 18 people were injured Saturday when a low-intensity bomb exploded in a flower market in south Delhi, a fortnight after the national capital was rocked by serial blasts.
The blast took place at about 2:15 pm (IST) in the market
in Mehrauli, close to the historic Qutub Minar, after two men
riding a motorcycle dropped a tiffin box wrapped in black
polythene bag.
Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal, who visited the site,
said one person was killed and 18 injured in the explosion.
Two persons came on a motorcyle and dropped the bag
containing the explosive in the market, he said.
A child picked up the packet which exploded.
The explosive was dropped near an electronic shop and the
blast shattered window panes of several adjacent shops.
Eleven of the injured were rushed to A.I.I.M.S. where
doctors said six were in critical condition.
The explosion comes exactly two weeks after the national
capital was rocked by five near simultaneous blasts in which
24 people were killed.
The blast in the narrow lanes created chaos in the market
which was full of Saturday shoppers.
Roads splattered with blood, broken glasses and shattered
furniture was all remained after the blast rocked the flower
market.
Immediately after the explosion, shopkeepers and shoppers
rushed to help the injured people and took them to nearby
hospitals.
"There was a huge sound. I came out of my shop and saw
some people were injured and screaming for help," a shopkeeper
said.
People in the area displayed their anger by alleging
that police came late despite being called several times.
"Police were nowhere to be seen till one hour after
the incident. We took the injured to the hospital," a
shopkeeper, who was injured in the incident, said.
Police have cordoned off the area and senior police
officials have rushed to the spot to take stock of the
situation.
Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri and Bharatiya
Janata Party (B.J.P.)'s Chief Ministerial candidate V.K.
