OIC Chief : OIC Calls for Emergency Ministerial Meeting on Syria
Doha, November 20 (QNA) - The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said the OIC Executive Committee at the level foreign ministers will hold an emergency meeting next week at the General Secretariat in Jeddah to discuss the current situation in Syria.
Professor Ihsanoglu told Qatar News Agency (QNA), on the sidelines of his participation in the Second Annual Research Forum that the OIC calls for ministerial meeting to see what can be done in coordination with the Arab countries regarding the situation Syria. "
On whether the meeting will adopt practical measures .. the OIC Chief replied, "That depends on the position of the countries" .. Confirming the OIC full coordination with the Arab League in this respect.
With regard to the situation in Yemen, he reiterated the OIC's support to the Gulf initiative and urged all parties in Yemen, especially the Government to respond to the initiative .
On the Tunisian elections held recently, the OIC Chief described the Tunisian experience as the most successful one in the Arab world, noting that it was based on sound constitutional and political process acceptable to all ."
Professor Ihsanoglu stressed that the OIC has supported the demands of the Arab peoples to freedom and dignity .. and has demanded since the beginning of events to avoid bloodshed.(QNA)
