Turkey in a process of change, says EU Minister Bagis

ISTANBUL (A.A) - Turkish Minister for European Union (EU) Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said Saturday that Turkey was in a process of change. Speaking at the "Nahda Network Summit" in Istanbul, Bagis said that no one could argue that Turkey was perfect with democracy, freedom of expression and individual rights at global standards. "Yet, today's Turkey is much better than yesterday's. What is crucial is that tomorrow's Turkey will be better than today's. What makes Turkey a source of inspiration is this process of change," Bagis underlined. Touching on the developments in Syria, Bagis said that there was no right more important than the right to live. Turkey is aware of such a crucial right. Turkey closely follows the developments in Syria, Bagis said. Our  hope is that Assad understands his great error and ends the desperate situation in Syria, Bagis also said. Meanwhile, Egemen Bagis's meeting with former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former U.S. National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley who are co-chairs of the Turkish-American Relations Independent Task Force of the U.S. Foreign Relations Council was cancelled on Saturday.
