BPOM: LOCALLY-PRODUCED FORMULA MILK PRODUCTS SAFE
Jakarta, Sept 27 (ANTARA) - The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) has given the assurance that all locally-made formula milk products covered by a BPOM distribution permit are safe for consumption.
"Local milk products or those imported from New Zealand and Australia are safe," BPOM chief Husniah Rubiana Thamrin Akib said here Saturday when announcing the results of investigations on milk products imported from China suspected to contain dangerous substances.
She also said to protect the public against contaminated milk from China, BPOM had banned the importation of milk products from that country since September 18, 2008. BPOM had also withdrawn all Chinese food products containing milk from the markets.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Siti Fadillah Supari called on the public not to worry about the safety of local milk products.
"No need to worry. If there are rumors that a certain product contains melamine, do not believe them before there is confirmation through laborarory tests," she said.
