27 convicts freed in Saada on presidential order
SAADA, Sep 26 (Saba) - The Subcommittee in charge of considering the
conditions of prisoners in the northern province of Saada has freed
27 of those who served three quarters of their prison terms.
The move came at the orders of president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The subcommittee has also compiled a list of 21 insolvent prisoners,
of those who had served their terms and who should pay their debts
and blood money, to be provided for the Supreme Committee to help
pay their debts and release them.
Earlier, the committee held a meeting with officials at the province
central prison and discussed prisoner needs and conditions and it
acquainted with their medical conditions in particular.
The meeting raised the issue of prisoner professional and technical
training and qualifying to be good society members after release.
The meeting affirmed the importance of setting up a Quran
memorization school for prisoners at which they learn moderate
religious teachings and how to fight extremist thoughts. FR
