Turkish FM says Arab League's offer was the last chance for the Syrian government

RABAT (A.A) - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Tuesday said the Syrian regime have failed to respond to the Arab League's proposal, which he described as "the last chance for Syria" to end the country's seven-month-old political crisis. "Both Turkey and the Arab League are working to devise a solution. And the proposal made by the Arab League was the last chance which the Syrian regime had failed to grasp," Davutoglu told a joint press conference Tuesday with his Moroccan counterpart in Rabat where he was scheduled to participate in a foreign ministers' meeting of the Turkish-Arab Cooperation Forum.        Davutoglu said bloodshed in Syria should end immediately and change should begin in line with the demands of the Syrian people. "Turkey stands in solidarity with the Syrian people and no one can expect us to remain indifferent to the humanitarian tragedy there."     Moroccan Foreign Minister Taieb Fassi Fihri, on his part, said that the Arab League should assume a greater role in solving the political crisis in Syria, adding, "Turkey, too, plays an effective and an important role. We are closely watching Turkey's efforts and positive contributions."
