Thai PM promises immediate rehabilitation in wake of floods

BANGKOK, November 12 (TNA) - A joint sitting of Thai lawmakers of both Lower and Upper Houses for a general debate of the country's ongoing flood crisis ended on Saturday, with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra promising to immediately rehabilitate flood-affected areas. Yingluck thanked all MPs and senators for their recommendations on solutions to the unprecedented vast floods, vowing to continue working hard patiently to bring normalcy back to the country as soon as possible to rebuild confidence in Thailand among international travellers and business operators and to pay tribute to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the auspicious occasion of the beloved Thai monarch's 84th birthday on December 5, 2011. The Pheu Thai premier said she will look into the lawmakers' recommendations and will discuss with relevant agencies on how to improve the country’s water drainage system to cope with the national water situation more effectively in the future. The prime minister asked for sympathy for all officials concerned who have performed the best to fight against the country's worst flooding, insisting, however, to investigate reports on alleged non-transparent flood relief operations, with all those found guilty to be punished.
