AOT: Suvarnabhumi Aiport won't be flooded
BANGKOK, November 12 (TNA) - Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) has assessed that there will be no flooding at the country's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport, where prevention measures have been in good place, including dredging of nearby canals and removing of garbage and water hyacinths to facilitate water drainage to the sea.
AOT Vice President Somchai Sawadiphol confirmed on Saturday that the operations carried out by over 30 fire-fighters, which have been partly complete, have now provided more rooms of some 30 centimetres deep for water inflows of the adjacent canals.
Somchai said that upstream runoffs into canals in the southern side of the Suvarnabhumi Airport have been flowing to a Royal Irrigation Department pumping station toward the sea, through the Samrong, Dan and the Suvarnabhumi Canals, at a total amount of some 15 million cubic metres a day, only half of the pumping station's full capacity of about 30 million cubic metres a day.
The AOT vice president expressed his confidence that the Suvarnabhumi Airport's well-prepared flood prevention measures will be able to protect the country's main international airport from inundations. (TNA)
