Thai PM: There are no worries over flooding in Bangkok now

BANGKOK, November 12 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Saturday it is now unlikely that the flood situation in Bangkok will worsen, after nearly a month of flooding in some parts of the Thai capital. Yingluck told reporters at the Thai Parliament that she is now not worried over the water situation in Bangkok, as there should only be a slight chance for more critical inundations, although close monitoring of new high tides in the middle of this month is still needed. The Pheu Thai premier insisted, however, that agencies concerned are to speed up draining out flood water in Bangkok’s western side to ease impacts in affected areas. The premier acknowledged it was too early to pin point whether there would be more flooded areas in the city pending an updated assessment on Sunday, with all relevant factors taken into consideration, including conditions of sluice gates, floodwalls and dykes, as well as progress on water drainage into the Saen Saeb Canal. The prime minister said if everything went well, she believed several areas in the capital would be safe from floods, noting that the situation inside the Bang Chan Industrial Estate has remained safe.
