Kia Motors workers agree on 2nd tentative wage deal

SEOUL, Sept. 26 (Yonhap) -- Unionized workers at Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's
second-largest carmaker, have reached a second tentative wage deal with their
management in a potential move to end sporadic partial strikes, both the company
and the union said Friday.
The sweetened pay deal included a 5.6 percent increase of workers' monthly basic
salary and a lump-sum bonus of three months salary plus three million won
(US$2,740), the two sides said in separate statements.
The deal also included an increase in retirement age to 59 from 58, according to
the statements.
The second deal came less than a day after unionized workers at Hyundai Motor
Co., the parent company of Kia, voted to accept a second pay deal.
The deal is tentative and must still be voted on by the union rank-and-file. Both
the union and company said a vote was set for next week.
