PLN TO SIGN CONTRACT FOR GAS SUPPLY TO DUKU TALANG POWER PLANT

Jakarta, Sept 26 (ANTARA) - State power utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara ( PLN) aims to sign a contract with state gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) in October 2008 for the supply of 8 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) to a thermal power plant (PLTG) at Talang Duku in South Sumatra province.

"After PLTG Cilegon, we hope that a contract for the supply of gas to PLTG Talang Duku can be signed in October," Chief of PLN?s Primary Energy Unit Nasri Sebayang said after the signing of a contract between PLN and PGN for the supply of gas to PLTGU Cilegon here on Thursday.
Both PLN and PGN have reached the final round of negotiations on the contract, he said.
Earlier, the two companies also signed contracts for the gas supply of 273.2 MMSCFD consisting of 13.2 MMSCFD to PLTG Batam, 200 MMSCFD to PLTGU Muara Tawar, 30 MMSCFD to PLTGU Tanjung Priok and 30 MMSCFD to PLTG Cilegon.
In addition, PNG is in the middle of negotiating an additional gas supply of 100 MMSCFD to PLTGU Muara Tawar.
PLN is trying to speed up the gas supply of 1,595 BBUTD to 13 thermal power plants with a combined capacity of 9,551 MW across the country.
PLN expects it can meet the gas supply of 899 BBTUD to 10 power plants next year.
Power demand is on the rise over the past few years with PLN imposing rotating power cuts in several parts of the country due to power shortages.
The government has recently issued a regulation ordering PLN to complete the construction of 35 power plants with a combined capacity of 10,000 MW. Ten of the 35 power plants are to be built on Java by 2010 at the latest.
