Samsung becomes sponsor of Guangzhou Asian Games
SEOUL, Sept. 26 (Yonhap) -- South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co. has recently become an official sponsor for the upcoming 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games to be held in China, the company said Friday.
Samsung signed a sponsorship deal with the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing
Committee on Thursday in the southern Chinese city to become a "Prestige Sponsor"
of the multi-sport event governed by the Olympic Council of Asia. Financial terms
were disclosed.
The sponsorship by Samsung, which has also served as an official sponsor of the
Olympic Games, will be the company's fourth-consecutive Asiad sponsorship since
the 1998 Bangkok Games.
Samsung said it understands the importance of the fast-growing Chinese consumer
market, noting that its mobile-phone market share reached 21 percent after the
Beijing Olympics, up from 14.7 percent last year.
