Female educationists to take part in electoral committees
SANA'A, Sep 25 (Saba) - The Supreme Commission for Elections and
Referendum SCER has approved, for the first time, the participation
of 25% of female educationists in the main and supervising electoral
committees and 50% in subcommittees.
The announcement came at a meeting chaired by the SCER chairman
Khalid Abdul Wahab al-Sharif with the attendance of Education
minister Abdul Salam al-Jawfi.
The meeting discussed a proposal regarding mechanism to select the
members of the committees responsible for revising and amending
educationist voter rolls which was forwarded by the heads of
technical and legal affairs departments.
The proposal included responsibilities of the SCER and the Education
ministry as well as measures and procedures regulating the process
of selecting committees heads and members to revise and amend the
2008 voter rolls.
Under the proposal, the SCER and ministry should place conditions
and measures regulating picking candidates according to conditions
stipulated in the election law No. 13 for 2001.
The SCER decides how many educationists will participate at a
constituency and then informs the ministry.
The education ministry presents lists of its selected people to
participate at every constituency on time and set out a suitable
mechanism to implement this.
The meeting also set up an executive joint committee and a
technical team comprising members from the SCER and ministry.
The executive joint committee will identify the responsibilities of
the commission and ministry and authorities of the technical team.
