PM MEETS UN SECRETARY-GENERAL

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ On occasion of the 50th anniversary of Mongolia's membership in the United Nations (UN), S.Batbold PM met last Thursday Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary-General in the UN Headquarters, New York City, USA. The Premier congratulated Mr. Ban Ki-moon on being re-elected as the UN Secretary-General and underlined successful works of the UN under his leadership. S.Batbold emphasized an importance of the Mongolia-UN collaboration and said Mongolia has created the Human Development Fund in order to distribute revenues from the mining industry to citizens. “It is important to closely cooperate with the UN in keeping the handouts of the mining sector and ensuring the economic growth,” he added. Batbold PM said Mongolia appreciates specific proposals initiated by the UN Secretary-General for implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015, and added that the UN developmental programs have successfully been implemented in Mongolia. “Mongolia took a presidency of the Community of Democracies in July this year. Our most important work is to spread the democracy at international arena. We plan to draw up a draft resolution of the UN General Assembly on education of the democracy,” the Premier said and asked Mr. Ban Ki-moon to support this. The latter appreciated the proposals. The Premier noted about a successful process of creating an intergovernmental agreement on establishing the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries. He said seven countries have signed this agreement so far. The Premier mentioned that Mongolia is successfully carrying out activities to strengthen its nuclear weapon-free status and non-proliferation of nuclear-weapons. The same day, the PM met Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, the chairman of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly to share views on the Mongolia-UN cooperation. B.Khuder
