Saudi Popular Campaign distributes aid to earthquake victims in
Islamabad, September 25, SPA -- The Islamabad-based Regional Office
of the Saudi Popular Campaign to Help Earthquake Victims in Pakistan
has distributed 7,600 food baskets each weighing 35 kilograms at a
cost of $ 350,000 to the earthquake victims in Kashmir and North West
Frontier Province of Pakistan.
This aid came under the supervision of the Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz,
the Interior Minister, who is also the General Supervisor of the
Saudi Popular Campaign to Help Earthquake Victims in Pakistan.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Regional Director
of the Campaign Dr. Khalid Al-Othmani said that the aid was
distributed to 7,600 afflicted families in earthquake areas in
Pakistan. Each basket contained milk, margarine, rice, flour, dates,
lentils and sugar.
He also said that the Saudi Popular Campaign completed last July a
project for building 4,000 prefabricated houses at a cost of $ 18.5
million to shelter displaced families in Blakcot city at North West
Frontier Province of Pakistan. Since resuming its work in Pakistan in
2005, the Saudi Popular Campaign distributed 230,000 blankets,
150,000 quilts, 12,500 winter tents, and medical aid amounting to SR
4 million.
"The Saudi Popular Campaign provided financial assistance amounting
to $ 2 million to UNICEF in order to build five health units in the
afflicted areas in addition to $ 2 million to the World Food Program
to buy bags of flour and distribute them to the afflicted families",
Dr. Al-Othmani said.
He also asserted the campaign's intention to build 3,000
prefabricated houses in Kashmir in the future as well as many schools
and mosques; five health units; and 20 schools in Kashmir at a cost
of $ 1,500,000.
This aid came under the direction of the Custodian of the Two Holy
Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to help all needy people
afflicted by disasters in Arab, Islamic and friendly countries.
