Turkish Cypriot president leaves for New York

LEFKOSA (A.A) - October 28, 2011 - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Dervis Eroglu left for New York, the United States to attend a tripartite summit on Cyprus issue on Friday.
The tripartite summit will take place between Eroglu, Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias, and the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on October 30 and 31.
Prior to his departure, Eroglu told reporters at Ercan Airport that if the Greek Cypriot party exerted efforts for an agreement during the tripartite meeting, they could close a great part of headings under Cyprus negotiations.
Eroglu said that they would discuss all headings excluding guaranties, territory and map.
"We has made proposals during talks in Cyprus for a rapprochement, but we could not establish bridges between proposals as the other party did not take steps. I hope that there will rapprochement in New York," he said.
Eroglu is expected to return to TRNC on November 3.
Eroglu and Christofias held 19 intensified talks between July 25 and October 21 to discuss all core issues regarding Cyprus.
