Thai government mulls areas for flood drainage
BANGKOK, October 28 (TNA) - The Thai government is looking into the possibility of cutting five roads in Bangkok's eastern side for quicker flood drainage to the sea, as proposed by a group of private engineers.
Thai Transport Minister Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol Suwanatat on Friday surveyed five targeted roads for the contingent plan, including Nimitmai, Suwintawong, Pracha Ruamjai, Ruam Pattana and Rat Uthit Roads.
Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol told reporters that under the proposed plan, the targeted roads will be cut through to facilitate underground drainage for around 100 million cubic metres of water a day.
The minister acknowledged that the government would go ahead with the plan, at least on some roads, if all factors were found advantageous, including minimum adverse effects on people living near the targeted areas. (TNA)
