Eighty percent of Thais happy to see cooperation between Yingluck and Abhisit in flood relief: Poll

BANGKOK, October 16 (TNA) - A survey published on Sunday found that 80% of Thais are pleased to see cooperation between Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her predecessor Abhisit Vejjajiva in their flood relief efforts.

The survey by Abac Poll of Assumption University, which was carried out on a sample group of 2,513 Thai people living in 19 unaffected provinces, also showed that 85.6% of the respondents hoped the collaboration would pave a way for a national reconciliation.

Asked about the positive aspects of the current flooding, 82.9% indicated that they were happy to see support flowing from their compatriots, 80.7% referred to generosity of Thai people, and 76.7% pointed to the determination Thai people in helping their fellow Thais.

On people’s satisfaction with agencies in flood relief efforts, the respondents were most satisfied with the military, drawing 9.47 points out of 10, followed by rescued volunteers, and journalists.

In addition, the survey showed that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra drew 9 points out of 10 on sympathy toward the Thai premier amid the ongoing flood crisis while more than half of the respondents or 56.8% wanted to see the government complete its four-year term to prove its capabilities.
