Thai poultry production drops by 10-20% due to flooding

BANGKOK, October 16 (TNA) - Floods have caused 10-20% drop in Thailand’s poultry production according to Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association.

Kukrit Areepakorn, President of the Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association, said Sunday the flooding has dragged down the poultry production by some 10-20 percent from 23 million chickens produced weekly, reasoning that the inundation has disrupted the supply chain for chicks and feed.

He noted that some farmers have already moved their chickens to Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Songklha Provinces which are unaffected by the current flooding.

According to the Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association, at present, the price of chicks is currently staying at 15-16 baht while the wholesale price of live birds is staying at 40 baht. (TNA)
