Northern runoffs to reach Bangkok tomorrow: Authority
BANGKOK, October 16 (TNA) - Massive northern runoffs are expected to reach Bangkok Monday, which will increase the level of the Chao Phraya River to 2.30 meters, according to the government’s flood relief operational center.
The flood relief operational center announced Sunday that the combination of the runoffs and the high sea tide is expected to increase the level of the Chao Phraya River to 2.30 meters above the sea level Monday, which is still some 0.2 meters below Bangkok floodwall.
The center also said that current flooding in many areas of Bangkok is caused by rainwater, not from the opening of water sluice gates.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Sunday instructed agencies concerned to accelerate the flow of water along the Chao Phraya River into the Gulf of Thailand at their full capacities. She noted that the Science and Technology Ministry will deploy more motor-boats on 20 locations to propel water into the sea on Monday. (End)
