Thai North warned of year-end frost, storms

LAMPANG, October 15 (TNA) - Thailand's Meteorological Department has warned the country's eight northern provinces of, probably, severe cold weather and storms from late this year to early next year.
Tiwa Panmaisi, chief of the weather agency’s regional office in Thailand's northern Lampang Province, said that starting from mid-October this year, temperatures in the Thai North will be falling due to occasional cold fronts from mainland China, causing initial cloudy weather with rainfalls and strong winds, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures with heavy mists from November 2011-January 2012, when average temperatures above the sea level will drop below 15 degrees Celsius and those on mountain tops will be as low as 10 to 5 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, people in the Thai North have been urged to prepare for the storms and frost during November-December although the cold snap, the worst in years, is expected to be brief, possibly ending in mid-February 2012 when the cold mass from China phases out. (TNA)
