PM: Seven nations assisting Thailand for floods

BANGKOK, October 15 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said Thursday morning that seven countries have planned to dispatch 28 helicopters to help relieve Thailand's severe floods--which have ravaged the country's almost regions for more than two months.
Speaking on her weekly address to the public, broadcast live on government-run radio and television networks nationwide, Yingluck revealed that the seven allied nations include the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Israel and Denmark, which have offered to send nearly 30 helicopters, along with rescue teams, in searching for missing flood victims and relocating affected people and heavy machineries to safe grounds.
Stressing that her two-month-old government have realised hardships confronting the flood-affected people, Yingluck urged the public to join her administration in fighting against the natural disaster, which has so far hit 56 Thai provinces in the lower North, Northeast and the central region, with Nakhon Sawan, Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani Provinces having hardest hit, seeking their cooperation not to destroy barriers, as it would only worsen the situation.
Yingluck insisted that workers have been speeding up discharging floodwater into the sea to protect strategic and remaining major business areas, industrial estates, airports in Bangkok and its peripheral areas from further damaging, acknowledging that her government's flood relief centre has also assigned the military, police and other concerned government agencies to expedite relevant preventive measures.
According to the Pheu Thai premier, donations given by the public to help the flood victims, through the government's flood relief centre, have now totalled more than 400 million baht. (TNA)
