Thailand's floods damage rice harvest

BANGKOK, October 15 (TNA) - The Ministry of Commerce has cautioned that Thailand may lose some 6-7 million tons of rice harvest this year due to the country's ongoing flooding crisis.
Thai Permanent Secretary for Commerce Yanyong Puangraj acknowledged that the widespread inundations, which have hit Thailand since late July, have damaged over 4 million acres of farmlands, 80 per cent of which are rice paddy fields in the country’s central region.
Yanyong conceded that the country's rice prices would be rising as a result of the loss of the national grain output. (TNA)
