PELNI TO GET NEW GERMAN-MADE SHIP

Jakarta, Sept 25 (ANTARA) - State shipping company PT Pelni will on Friday get a new passenger ship built at the Meyer Werft shipbuilding yard in Germany.
Actually, the ship dubbed "Gunung Dempo" was officially delivered to Indonesia in June 2008, the German Embassy in Jakarta said in a press statement on Thursday.
The ship which will be handed over by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to PT Pelni on the occasion of his visit to Makassar on Friday is the 24th of its kind delivered to the company under the German-Indonesian economic cooperation to help intensify development in Indonesia by making its remote islands accessible to passengers and goods, the statement said.
The ship which will serve the Batam-Jakarta-Surabaya-Makassar-Ambon-Sorong-Manokwari-Jayapura route has a capacity of carrying 1,500 passengers and 100 containers.
