Thai PM discusses updated flooding situation
BANGKOK, October 14 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, again, discussed the country's updated flooding situation and assistance for flood victims with concerned authorities at the government’s flood relief operation center in Bangkok's Don Muang Airport on Friday.
Yingluck insisted that flows of floodwater from upstream areas were stable and downpours were limited; therefore, many dams which hold water from the North can now reduce their discharges.
The Pheu Thai premier also ordered officials to repair the water gate at Ban Phrao Canal in Sam Kok District of Bangkok's suburban Pathum Thani Province to protect the capital from floods, saying that to ensure accuracy on information on flooding possibilities in Bangkok, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will be the sole source of official information.
Yingluck admitted that the government’s flood relief operation center made a mistake by ordering evacuations of people in Bangkok’s northern outskirts late Thursday, noting that Justice Minister Police General Pracha Promnog, who is the director of the government's flood relief operation center, will be, from now on, the only person to issue official warnings to the public.
