NAD FARMERS, BIZMEN INVITED TO EXPORT FRUIT TO JAPAN
Banda Aceh, Sept 25 (ANTARA) - The government has opened the opportunity for Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) businesspeople to export bananas and pineapples to Japan where demand for fresh fruits is high, a local industry official said.
The opportunity is based on the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) in which Japan requested the supply of 1,000 tons of fresh banana and 100 tons of pineapple from Indonesia in 2008, the head of NAD's cooperatives, small and medium enteprises office, Cipta Hunai, said here Thursday.
Any province in Indonesia could conduct the fruit export to Japan, he said.
The opportunity was especially relevant for pineapple planters and exporters in Central Aceh and Bener Meriah districts, and banana growers and traders in Bireuen, North Aceh, and Pidie districts, according to Hunai.
He said his office had organized extension courses for and disseminated information among NAD's farming and business communities relevant to the fruit exporting opportunity.
The fruits to be exported to Japan had to meet all the conditions mentiooned in the Harmonized System (HS) and be covered by a document called Quota Certficate (QC) which businessmen could obtain from the government through a certain procedure, he said.
